Holistic Pelvic Care™ FAQS

  • Holistic Pelvic Care™ can help with symptoms of pelvic dysfunction such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain and heaviness and pain with sex. It can also help with pelvic muscle weakness.

  • Holistic Pelvic Care™ treatments can help rebalance your body after the huge changes pregnancy and birth bring.

Your pelvis and pelvic organs are sometimes unable to fully realign themselves and this gentle hands on body work can help rebalance the fascia and muscles in your pelvic space.

It is also important for any trauma, or feelings of overwhelm or failure after birth. Even with a positive birth experience women can feel overwhelmed at the huge process their body and mind have experienced and it can be difficult to bring your awareness back into your body completely. Often women will stay in their minds and replay the birth over and over for awhile. Holistic Pelvic Care treatments following birth help you to bring your awareness back into your body which allows you to process the birth properly - with your mind, body and emotions.

  • 6 weeks after giving birth vaginally is the time to start treatment. If you have experienced any complications in your postpartum healing like infection, then we would likely need to wait longer, depending on your personal circumstances.

After a caesarean section the time would be 12 weeks postpartum before beginning a treatment.

  • Holistic Pelvic Care™ treatments can increase your vitality, help you prepare for life changes such as birth or menopause and are helpful following childbirth to help your body rebalance and help you reconnect with your core and your strength.

Treatments are also useful after miscarriage or abortion, when a woman may disconnect with her pelvic space. When we disconnect with our core, we also disconnect with our creative flow and our strength. Holistic Pelvic Care™ treatments help with healing, processing and reconnection.

  • During pregnancy we do not do internal pelvic work, but we use visualisation and energy work to help you connect with your pelvis and prepare for childbirth. This connection is likely more important than most people realise.

Giving birth requires you to really surrender to the experience of your pelvis opening and a baby coming through and that is a huge undertaking. If you "would rather not think about it" or find you are reluctant to imagine it, labour and birth may prove to be difficult due to excessive tension in your pelvis.

This visualisation and energy work really helps you to bring awareness to your pelvis - your core - and allow it's full preparation for labour and the birth.

  • No, I offer MotherCircle mother/baby yoga classes in sets throughout the year and run workshops in East Lothian for postpartum women (and their babies). My postnatal and postpartum classes are designed for the mother — they are not baby activity classes. But the babies come along as they need to be with their mothers.

I also offer occasional workshops on women's pelvic health and do collaborations with other practitioners on women's health. These workshops will be once only — not regular offerings — so if you are interested you will need to join.
